The Antonine Wall

Turf ramparts, ditches and stone forts were the only thing that stood between Roman soldiers and the edge of their world.

The route was carved out of the landscape from coast to coast, and traces can still be found in modern parks, suburbs and cemeteries almost 2,000 years later.
