Group Of Children Playing In Forest Camp Together

September is so packed with archaeology that it’s known as Scottish Archaeology Month. The programme features hundreds of events taking place all across the country – no, you’re not dreaming.

If you’re overwhelmed by your options, you can always narrow it down by picking a region. Head to the Scottish Borders Heritage Festival to see over 25 historic locations illuminated with story, song and light or pick up some 3D laser scanning skills at the Inner Forth Festival. Get your hands dirty at digs during the East Lothian Archaeology & Local History Fortnight or dive into “Awesome Archaeology” with Angus Heritage Week.

If you’d prefer to pick a time period, you can step back into the past with the Largs Viking Festival, the Mary Queen of Scots Festival in Kinross or Big Roman Week in Falkirk.
