Watling Lodge
The Site

Watling Lodge is a long-buried Roman fortlet on the Antonine Wall, built on the orders of the Emperor Antoninus Pius and running from modern Bo’ness on the Firth of Forth to Old Kilpatrick on the River Clyde. The fortlet is one of sixteen the Romans built along the wall and is situated at what is now the site of Watling Lodge, a well preserved villa built in 1893. Today the villa is used by the Barnardo’s Scotland Axis and Cluaran Service.

Watling Lodge

The Story

Working with Barnardo’s Scotland and Tamfourhill Tenant’s and Resident’s Association to celebrate World Heritage Day 2015, the aim of this Minecraft build was to offer the Falkirk community, and specifically those situated around Watling Lodge, a fun and educational experience that would allow them to explore the heritage on their doorstep and (literally) under their feet. ImmersiveMinds built the fort as part of an intergenerational workshop packed with learning opportunities.
