Join AOC Archaeology and the Uncovering the Tweed Project to help excavate Adie’s Brae scooped settlement.
Known as Adie’s Brae, this site has been quickly identified as a target for excavation. Scooped settlements are usually defined as enclosed areas that have been cut into a hillside – literally scooped out – to create space for a settlement. They typically date to the Middle Iron Age (c. 200BC-400AD) and are found exclusively in south-east and central southern Scotland.
Work at Adie’s Brae aimed to accurately date the site, investigate the structure of the enclosure, and explore any traces of buildings within the interior.
More info on the settlement is available here: Prehistoric Lives – Destination Tweed : Destination Tweed.
This is an opportunity to get involved in excavation, with no previous experience required – full training provided.
No excavation on Sunday 26 April.
Register through the link below. Please book a space for each of the days you would like to come. You are welcome to come along for just a day as a taster or for more. If you are able, it is recommended booking consecutive days to get more experience in different parts of the process.
