Bannockburn House Dig – June 2026

Join Stirling Field & Archaeological Society’s community excavation at historic Bannockburn House

Bannockburn House is a Category A-listed building with roots stretching back to the medieval period. Since 2019, volunteers have been uncovering the hidden story of its grounds — including a possible 16th-century mine shaft, traces of buildings shown on General Roy’s military survey of c.1750 that have since vanished, and artefacts spanning several centuries.

This summer they return for two further weeks of excavation, continuing to explore the north-east corner of the house where Roy’s map shows a now-lost range of buildings, as well as the area around the early mine shaft. Whether you are an experienced digger or have never picked up a trowel, you are welcome.
