Promoting Scottish Archaeology

Part of Dig It!’s mission is to provide promotion and support to the heritage sector. How do we help?

Event Promotion

We advertise hundreds of free or low-cost (under £15) archaeology events in Scotland each year through our Events page. These include talks, walks, tours, festivals, workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, and fieldwork opportunities which are open to everyone, with no experience required to participate.

The events are coordinated by a range of organisations and there is no charge associated with advertising events through Dig It!. If you’d like us to help promote your event, please fill out the form and a member of the team will review your request.

Discover Articles

New to archaeology? Want to know more about sites and artefacts near you? Hoping to get to grips with the science and techniques behind Scotland’s archaeological stories? Want to explore the relationship between archaeology and climate change? Or just looking to learn something fun about Scotland’s past?

You can read about all of this and more in our Discover articles. These short webpages have been written by the Dig It! team and folks from across the sector to help make it easier for anyone to start digging into Scottish archaeology.

Media Coverage

Each year, Dig It! helps raise awareness of the fantastic archaeological work that takes place across the country by securing national and regional coverage for our annual list of top discoveries of the year and Scotland’s summer fieldwork season through the Scotland Digs campaigns.

We also help spread the word about other projects, discoveries and initiatives. In 2023, for example, we also produced the press release to launch the Celebrating Archaeology in Scotland 2023 magazine, spoke to BBC Scotland Radio about how to get started in archaeology, and liaised with VisitScotland on a story about summer adventures “on your doorstep”.

If you’d like to tell us about an event, have an idea for a Discover article or want to get involved in another way, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
