Join The Leven Programme at the Methil Mill dig site in River Park, Levenmouth, for a unique opportunity to explore an active archaeological site and learn about the fascinating discoveries uncovered so far. Their team will be on hand to share insights, findings, and stories from the excavation, bringing local history to life.
This is a drop-in event running from 12:00–16:00, open to everyone with an interest in archaeology, history, or the heritage of the area.
Please note, this is a viewing and information event only – visitors will not be able to participate in the excavation.
Discovering Methil Mill
The Methil Mill dig is revealing fascinating clues about the area’s industrial past. The excavation aims to uncover how the mill was built, how it worked, and the part it played in the Levenmouth community. This is one of the last surviving traces of milling in Levenmouth, making it a rare and valuable opportunity to explore a piece of shared heritage.

Visitors of all ages are welcome to come along, meet the team, and discover how archaeology helps us connect with the people and stories of the past.
Its a free, family-friendly, and full of surprises. Come along, ask questions, and see what they’ve been uncovering!
While Dig It! takes every opportunity to ensure that this information is accurate, we advise that you contact the event organiser before attending the event to avoid disappointment. As “39% of transport emissions come from cars” according to Net Zero Nation, Dig It! also encourages you to walk, wheel, cycle or use public transport to arrive at this event if possible.
The River Park is a mown grass greenspace that may be uneven under foot. Access to the Park is either from the footpath near Cameron Bridge Station, down a grass slope from the pavement on Poplar Road, or across Duniface Bridge. Please note that these surfaces may not be suitable for all mobility needs.
Activities will be taking place outdoors, please dress for the weather.
Please note that there are no public toilets in The River Park.
