Come along to this Comunn Sloinntearachd na Gaidhealtachd (Highland Family History Society) event to hear from Dr Jim Mackay of the Kirkmichael Trust.
The Tarbat Discovery Centre at Portmahomack celebrates its ancient Pictish and Viking origins, but for the past few months they have been recording the grave slabs and tablestones in the kirkyard there from the 1600s to 1800s. What great inscriptions and carvings they’ve found! The stones are there for everybody to view but many of them are worn and need special techniques to bring out the inscriptions and beautiful carving. Amongst their discoveries are a new medieval cross slab, two new Claymore slabs and even a Green Man!
The meeting will be preceded by the Society’s AGM at 2.00pm.
